Our Founder

Brian F. Moss, CFA has over 30 years of experience working in professional investing, risk management and alternative investments. He has worked with some of the largest investment firms such as the predecessor to UBS (Union Bank of Switzerland) and a group that spun-off from JP Morgan. Additionally, Mr. Moss has worked with prominent US families including an investment firm that was purchased by the Forbes Family Trust.

Mr. Moss has a passion for investing and for helping clients plan, manage and grow their wealth and achieve their goals. Through the years he has managed portfolios, managed tax obligations, offered unique investments and hedged client assets.

Mr Moss currently serves as the Treasurer and Executive Board Member of the Darien, CT Chamber of Commerce providing trusted fiduciary oversight and administration over the Chamber’s finances.

Mr. Moss started Soaring Capital after having tremendous success managing his family wealth. Gaining invaluable experience from over thirty years of working on Wall Street, he believed that technologies, techniques, methods and offerings used in institutional money management could be applied to private wealth management for individuals, business owners and retirees.

After being an insider to nearly all facets of Wall Street, Mr. Moss developed a unique perspective, view and knowledge of the markets, investor behaviors and investor psychology. This exposure allowed him to make better and more informed decisions.

Today, Soaring Capital applies this experience and knowledge to manage a wide range of investments and is in constant pursuit of ways to profit, generate income, hedge and help individuals plan their financial futures. While some investments are mainstream, the firm differentiates itself by allocating and using non-traditional investments. The firm looks for places where capital is scarce and where it can command a premium.

Prior to Soaring Capital, Brian held senior roles on Wall Street including fixed income research and co-head of strategy at what is now UBS Institutional and Private Wealth Management (then PaineWebber). He later played a key role in the successful evolution of RiskMetrics (a spin-off from JP Morgan) into the world’s leading risk analytics provider. Mr. Moss managed and marketed to the world’s largest asset managers, hedge funds, pension funds and wealth management institutions to help advance the way institutional investors communicate about risk. These efforts contributed to RiskMetrics evolving from a startup into the world’s leading financial risk management provider with an IPO market cap value of $1.5 billion.

After RiskMetrics, he was recruited to join Optima Fund Management (now part of Forbes Family Trust). At Optima he traveled the globe managing clients and helped build portfolios of hedge funds and other alternative assets, including a real estate investment trust (REIT) which was the first of its kind to go public on the New York Stock Exchange.

Upon leaving Optima, he worked with a successful activist investment firm where he was exposed to value investing and corporate fundamental analysis. The firm was instrumental in positively changing the direction of a number of industrial and consumer companies for which significant equity value was created.

Mr. Moss has been quoted and appeared in various financial news publications, including the Wall Street Journal and others and he has spoken at numerous investment conferences. Additionally, he performed quantitative research that was included in Frank Fabozzi‘s Handbook of Fixed Income Securities. Mr. Moss holds an honors degree in economics from Union College where he was inducted into the Omnicron Delta Epsilon Economics Honors Society.

He later went on to complete a rigorous three-year course of study to obtain the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation from the CFA Institute. He is an active member of the CFA Society of Stamford, CT. Mr. Moss is a proud and active volunteer of the non-profit charity Person-to-Person, which was started after the assassination of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. to help those impacted by poverty and injustice.

Mr. Moss currently lives in Darien, Connecticut just outside of New York City with his wife, two children and their Australian labradoodle puppy. When he is not following the markets and looking for investment opportunities, he loves to support his children at their sports events (ice hockey and swimming), travel, hike, play hockey and read. He has lived in Europe and traveled extensively across the world including over 55 countries and 6 continents.
